Bulgogi marinade
Here is a super simple bulgogi marinade recipe and details on how to cook the meat. Did you know bulgogi means "fire meat" in Korean? Traditionally this is made with soy sauce but we used half soy sauce and half coconut nectar to cut down on the sodium content but still have GREAT flavor.
Equipment
- Large ziploc bag if you are going to marinate the meat
- Electric skillet if you decide to use this for meat.
Ingredients
Marinade ingredients
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup coconut nectar find this next to the soy sauce
- 1/4 cup sesame oil
- 1/2 cup honey optional
- 1/2 tbsp minced garlic get the pre-minced for less prep, or use powder
- 1 tsp ginger powdered ginger or the pureed in a tube from the produce section
- 1/2 cup applesauce no sugar added
Ingredients for the cooking process
- 1 cup green onions chopped
- 1 cup shredded carrots find these pre-shredded in the produce section
- 1.5 lb sirloin thin sliced! Choose really any type of meat you like
Instructions
Marinade
- Assemble all of the marinade ingredients in a jar, shake until combined. Can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Can be used for a salad dressing!
Cooking process
- If you are going to cook this with meat, combine with thin sliced meat of choice in a large ziploc bag. Store in fridge overnight, or for at least 1 hour.
- In a skillet or pan, heat olive oil over medium heat, add carrots and onions and cook for about 5 minutes or until a little tender.
- Add meat and stir occasionally. The meat should be done it under 10 minutes. Portion out into 4-6 servings!
